Updated: May 2026 | By Street And Beyond Staff

Filipino boxing legend Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is taking on a new challenge — this time in the fast-growing sport of pickleball. The eight-division world champion is spearheading the launch of the Maharlika Pilipinas Pickleball Tour (MPPT), the Philippines’ first professional pickleball league.

What is the MPPT?

Set to debut later in 2026, the MPPT will feature a team-based format with eight pioneering franchises representing key regions: Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The league aims to mirror the success of Pacquiao’s earlier Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) by providing a professional platform for athletes and boosting grassroots participation.

The inaugural season will offer a prize pool of at least ₱5 million and will be sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

Why Pickleball?

Pickleball has exploded in popularity worldwide and is currently one of the fastest-growing sports in the Philippines. Combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, it appeals to players of all ages and skill levels. Pacquiao’s involvement is expected to bring massive visibility and investment to the sport.

“It’s always been my mission to promote sports and give our athletes a platform to showcase their talents and bring pride and honor to their cities and provinces.” — Manny Pacquiao

Impact on Philippine Sports

Following the model of the MPBL, the MPPT is positioned to develop talent, create job opportunities for athletes, and inspire a new generation of pickleball players across the country.

Key Highlights:

  • Professional team-based league
  • Regional representation (Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao)
  • Minimum ₱5 million prize pool
  • GAB-sanctioned professional status
  • Expected launch in late 2026

This move further cements Manny Pacquiao’s legacy as a sports promoter beyond boxing, expanding his influence into one of the world’s fastest-rising racket sports.
